Kentucky Coffeetree
Kentucky Coffeetree
The Kentucky Coffeetree gets its name from the pioneers who tried to make coffee from its long "bean" pods. (They weren't very successful.)Â
This type of tree can be either "male" and produce pollen cells, or it can be "female" with egg cells that will form into the long seed pods after they've pollinated.
Does this tree have seedpods? Would that make it male or female?
Didn't get this one right? Don't worry! Just like other living things, there's a lot of diversity in the plant kingdom, and even two trees of the same species can look very different from each other. Identification takes practice!
