Cedar
Cedar
The scaly, waxy nature of cedar leaves helps them survive cold temperatures and trap in water.
Most of the cedar trees living here in North America aren't close genetic relatives of "true" cedars, which live in the middle east. Our "false" cedars got their name for their physical resemblance to the "originals."
Didn't get this one right? Don't worry! Just like other living things, there's a lot of diversity in the plant kingdom, and even two trees of the same species can look very different from each other. Identification takes practice!
