Buckeye
Buckeye
Buckeye trees get their name from the large seeds they produce (which supposedly resemble the eyes of a deer.)
Although many trees actually "want" their seeds to be eaten by animals (who will later "plant" them back out onto the ground), the buckeye's seeds are toxic. This means that the seeds need to get lucky when they fall off the tree by landing somewhere soft enough that they can start growing.
Didn't get this one right? Don't worry! Just like other living things, there's a lot of diversity in the plant kingdom, and even two trees of the same species can look very different from each other. Identification takes practice!
